David hartwell to speak at international woodworking machinery fair
He will
highlight how Bellcomb has been able to service dozens of industries and
hundreds of applications that benefit from the differentiating values of
lightweight composite panels, sometimes referred to as “sandwich panels”. From Whiteboards to Elevators and from
Medical Devices to Transportation vehicles of all types, there is an economic
value to a panel being lighter, remaining flatter and being stronger than
conventional materials.
Mr. Hartwell
will explain how Bellcombs success and rapid growth has been the result of its
custom engineering of panel dimensions and specifications for each client. Its composite sandwich panels range in thickness from .125” to 4”
and are generally requested in 4’ by 8’ sheets, although larger and smaller sizes
are available. Performance requirements
and the environment in which the panel will be used drive material selection;
the universal skins are aluminum, fiberglass, mdf, or plywood, and the most
popular cores are of aluminum honeycomb, kraft paper honeycomb, or foam.
His discussion will also touch on how sandwich panels are
usually a component in the assembly of a larger system and how Bellcomb works
to incorporate these requirements into its panel products. The systems Bellcomb designs and manufactures
usually require panel edges to be protected from the environment so it
incorporates edge banding, either external or internal extrusions or framing
systems. These panels can be attached to
one another in a system or they will have other components attached to them. In these instances, automation precisely places
attachments points.
