Engineering and Design Process

Bellcomb is able to leverage its experience and expertise to provide unparalleled custom design and manufacturing to clients by following a proven process that ensures we leave no stone unturned.

Analysis

Design begins with dialogue. You talk, we listen. We ask questions, you provide direction. We summarize, you confirm that we understand what you said you want and need. Then we utilize traditional analysis techniques, along with a proprietary program developed exclusively for Bellcomb by leading composite experts, to calculate stresses and displacements in composite panels. Our software allows us to determine which materials configurations match up best with your structural needs. It’s not uncommon for us to analyze multiple design options to make sure we satisfy each and every client requirement.

Design

Once we’ve arrived at a mutual understanding of the critical parameters of your application, with special emphasis on the total service environment in which the panel will be used, our engineering team reviews the panel design requirements and materials options to determine a design path. Our comprehensive understanding of the wide variety of core and skin materials coupled with our extensive manufacturing capability offers multiple design possibilities. Once the design is established, our Engineering Group generates the necessary design, manufacturing and quality documentation to ensure your satisfaction.

Typical design requirements include
  • Cost-effectiveness
  • Strength-to-Weight Ratio
  • Stiffness and Dimensional Stability
  • Edge Closures, Panels Joiners, Inserts & Attachments
  • Moisture, Chemical, and Corrosion Resistance
  • Non-combustibility
  • Wear Resistance and Compression Strength
  • Acoustic Properties & Energy Absorption
  • Insulating Properties
  • Out-gassing and Electrical Conductivity
  • Sizing & Machining
  • Appearance & Finish
