What are the major selling points for the Strata Panel?
The lightweight makes installs 8-10 times faster and at prevailing wages that is a major factor and due to its ease you don’t need masons. Due to the reduction in weight compared to dimensional stone, the structure supporting the stone does not need to be as robust. Because we split slabs in two, we get double the square footage out of a natural resource. The beauty and durability of natural stone along with the enhanced strength due to the honeycomb backer other features.
What are the natural stone dimensions and choices?
The stone gets calibrated to ¼” thickness making for a total one inch system. The stone slab dimensions vary by quarry but usually 4’ x 8’ pieces are attainable although Bellcomb can produce lightweight stone panels up to 5’ x 10’. There is no limit to the natural stone options.
What is the honeycomb panel construction?
Exterior applications utilize a fiberglass skin bonded to aluminum honeycomb as this has characteristics or expansion and contraction that are close to stone. Interior applications can utilize fiberglass or aluminum skins which are easier to mount hardware to which does not need to be as robust when panels are not subjected to wind loads seen in exterior applications.
Who makes the honeycomb core and what sizes are available?
Bellcomb produces its own aluminum honeycomb in sheet sizes to fit the stone slabs. ¾” thickness is standard for the construction cladding products with a cell diameter of 3/8”.
Has it been tested for hurricane conditions and fire?
Check the website under Resources. Specs and Warranty are there too.
How does using the Strata Panel effect the environment?
Long before going “green” was fashionable, Bellcomb made the commitment to manufacture fundamentally resource efficient products. This has continued with its stone product offerings which utilize far less stone than standard products while delivering a more structural and stable product than regular dimensional stone that reduces transportation and job site costs with less safety risks for those working with it. Designing products that use fewer raw materials and resources but deliver performance expected by end users might now be called “stealth environmentalism” but we are committed to just that.
What impacts the costs?
The stone utilization is a major factor. If we can use 85% of a slab vs. 60% a project can vary greatly. This is why we prefer to quote by specifying maximum panel sizes. The next factor would be the job difficulty in terms of the number of returns, special cuts etc… The type of the stone and its hardness and finish all play roles in the costs.
What is the depth of the mounting hardware?
The standard wall and panel channels combine for 1 3/8” making the entire system 2/3/8”. Please inquire for any other request.
Where are the architectural specifications found?
CSI, or Construction Specifiers Institute generally has these products under Division Four or Division Seven. 04 42 00 or 07 42 00. Depending upon interpretations that may vary. In many cases the specifications do not exist. They can be found and downloaded from the website www.bellcomb.com
How long does a quote take?
A couple days if you have all the info. We will do take offs but then require a week or so depending upon the size of the job
